My daughter would like to join:
1. Send us your details by completing the Contact Us page on our website.
2. One of our District Leader will be in contact with you to discuss the program and a suitable night for your daughter to visit.
3. You and your daughter can visit the unit and meet the Leaders and Guides.
4. You have two weeks to go onto the the www.girlguides-nswactnt.org.au website and click join. You will be asked to set up a profile account for your daughter/self and then you will pay the annual youth membership fee of $248.00
5. Your daughter will receive a membership number -
6. The next step is to discuss payment of the local North Canberra District Support Group fee ($170 per family plus $50 per extra sibling) and the separate Unit Subs fee with one of your Unit's Leaders. Leaders can give information about these.
7. Your daughter will also require a Guide uniform which is available by going onto the website and clicking 'shop' - this will take you to the link for the GGA Australian uniform provider. Talk to leaders before ordering online as to exactly what you require and the leaders can also suggest sizes (we often have to go to a larger size to get the right one)
8. The Unit fee (Subs) differs from unit to unit and is used by the leaders for the purchase of badges, craft materials and other equipment. Each Unit sets its own fee, which can be paid per term or annually. Please ask the Unit leaders about this cost.
9. Your daughter will undertake some Pre-Promise activities before making her Promise as a Girl Guide at a special ceremony that she will help plan and you will be invited to attend.
I would like to become a Girl Guide Leader
There are a number of different ways you can join us as an adult member - the Region has resource leaders, in the units you can be a leader, or a unit helper. Feel free to discuss with the District Manager what you think you might like to do.
1. Send us your details by completing the Contact Us page on our website.
Our District Manager (Helen) will be in contact with you to make a time to meet and discuss Guiding, training, and the range of options that are available to adult members of Girl Guides.
2. If you decide to continue, you have two weeks to complete the Guides NSW/ACT Membership form and pay the annual membership fee. By completing this form and making the payment you will become a member of Girl Guides Australia. A large component of this payment is insurance to cover you in case of an accident.
3. As we are in the ACT, you will need to either have, or apply for an ACT Government Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) card. If you do not require one of these for work, you may note when applying that you require this for volunteer work and ACT Government will not charge you for this.
4. The next step is training you will receive a Leader’s Passport which will guide you through your training as well as a Guiding Mentor to support you through your training.
5. You will require a Guide uniform which is available by going onto the website and clicking 'shop' - this will take you to the link for the GGA Australian uniform provider. Talk to other leaders about sizing before purchasing - these tend to be small sizes.
6. You will make your Promise as a Girl Guide at a special ceremony arranged by either the District or your Unit.
7. Once you have completed your training you will be a fully qualified Girl Guide Leader with the whole world just waiting for you to explore with your girls.
8. Our Support Group are happy to offer financial support (membership) to our leaders for their time given to our girls.
